Motor Vehicle Accident – Favorable Verdict
Attorneys Involved | Thomas H. Houlihan, Jr., Ashley A. Noel
Boyle | Shaughnessy Law attorneys Thomas H. Houlihan, Jr. and Ashley A. Noel recently obtained a favorable jury verdict in a motor vehicle accident case pending in the Bridgeport Superior Court. The Plaintiff alleged that she was injured when the Defendant rear-ended her vehicle while on a highway entrance ramp. In particular, the Plaintiff claimed numerous spinal injuries, which resulted in the need for multiple surgeries and more than $500,000.00 in medical bills.
Prior to the start of trial, the Defendant admitted responsibility for the accident. However, the defense disputed the nature and extent of the injuries caused by the impact. In support of this theory, Attorneys Houlihan and Noel effectively utilized complex medical and engineering evidence to support their defense. Additionally, on cross-examination, the defense challenged the Plaintiff’s claims by effectively highlighting multiple inconsistent statements made by the Plaintiff.
During closing arguments, the Plaintiff’s attorney asked the jury to award the Plaintiff over $2,000,000.00 in damages. However, the strategy employed by Attorneys Houlihan and Noel led the jury to be suspicious of the Plaintiff’s claims, and it ultimately rendered a total award under $100,000.00.
