Matthew H. Greene appointed as Hearing Officer for MA BBO
Shareholder Matthew Greene has been appointed to a three-year term as a Hearing Officer for the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers. The BBO is an independent administrative body established by the Supreme Judicial Court to investigate and evaluate complaints against attorneys. Hearing Officers sit in panels of three as fact-finding tribunals in disciplinary proceedings brought against individual attorneys by the Office of Bar Counsel. They hear testimony, take evidence, make adjudicatory rulings and, with the assistance of a Board attorney, prepare written reports and recommendations for the Board of Bar Overseers.
Matthew represents a diverse range of clients including attorneys accused of legal malpractice, various professionals covered under errors & omissions insurance policies including accountants, engineers and real estate brokers, regional, national and international corporations, educational institutions, construction contractors, and manufacturers and distributors of products, both domestic and foreign. Most recently, Matthew obtained a defense verdict for his client, an attorney, following a trial in the Business Litigation Session of Suffolk Superior Court (Boston, MA). The case involved claims for violation of the Massachusetts Uniform Securities Act (MUSA), G.L. c. 110A, sec. 410, and violation of G.L. c. 93A, sec. 11, in which the plaintiff alleged that the defendants, including Matthew’s client as general counsel for the company, engaged in unfair and deceptive business practices and made false statements and/or material omissions in connection with the sale of securities.
